I found a great video of Matt Cutts on Youtube where he talks about what web designers should be looking into for 2008. I think its worth sharing. If you don’t know who Matt Cutts is: He works for Google and works on quality control and SEO issues. He’s a huge authority on all things Google SEO related.

Important Issues According to Matt:

  1. Quality content. A base of high quality content. Basically, content is still king.
  2. Personalization and specific sites. Focus on niches. Local niche sites are great.
  3. The increase of mobile devices means optimize, fast loading, sites will receive great traffic for mobile devices.

The video:

He isn’t revieling a lot here, but it did make me a lot more interested in articles I’ve been reading from Courtney and Vic. They’ve both been pushing niche sites. Courtney’s approach is keyword snipping. Vic is local niches.

I’ve been following both of them and they have great advise. I follow their suggestions. For example, this site uses the keyword snipping theme by Court. I did use his theme, but used its code as a basis for my design. I’m using it to target a very local niche, which is Nashville Web Design. I do freelance web design part time while I’m at school, so I thought it ‘d be useful to rank high for this key phrase.
